MIDEA presents “game changing” indoor hybrid heat pump at IFA 2024

The Midea Group is taking the shift toward heat pumps a step further.

The company’s CirQHP Indoor Hybrid Heat Pump is compact and adaptable and forgoes the need for users to install a potentially noisy, space consuming outdoor unit.

According to Midea, heat pumps are the future of heating and the reasons are apparent: by harnessing the energy already present in the ambient air. Heat pumps are more efficient than conventional heating systems making them environmentally friendly without compromising on comfort.

The company, a leading global manufacturer of home appliances and HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) solutions, is aware that concerns surrounding heat pumps, including space restrictions, sound restrictions and aesthetic considerations, need to be addressed.

It was with this in mind, that Midea, founded in 1968 in China and present now in more than 200 countries, developed its award winning CirQHP Indoor Hybrid Heat Pump.

It is a compact monoblock indoor heat pump that, unlike more conventional Air-to-Water (ATW) heat pumps, eliminates the need for an outdoor unit.

No outdoor unit means no noise complaints from neighbours. It also addresses aesthetic concerns that may have lead consumers to be reluctant to put an outdoor unit in their garden or in front of their house.
The Midea CirQHP Indoor Hybrid uses two ducts, for air inlet and outlet, that can be run through a wall or a roof. They can thus be installed in basements, attics or dedicated heating rooms, without the need for an outside foundation plate or concerns about freezing and defrosting.

With a heating capacity of 4.5 kW, the heat pump operates in weather as cold as -20°C and offers an energy efficiency class of A++ in heating. It’s a hybrid system, meaning that it can be connected to different types of gas boilers, both existing and new, using traditional ON/OFF and modern high-efficiency Opentherm communication protocols.

No wonder that Midea is calling its CirQHP Indoor Hybrid a veritable game changer, as the unit automatically selects the most cost efficient mode. Under normal circumstances it runs in heat pump mode, but in extreme cold conditions, when the heat pump efficiency is lower, the gas boiler will kick in. That can mean savings — and increased peace of mind — for the the end user.

For Midea, style is also important. The CirQHP Indoor Hybrid was designed in collaboration with the company’s Italy Design Center. The result is a compact product that is both easy to install and aesthetically pleasing. It’s also user friendly, thanks to its newly developed Q-Control system, which boasts an intuitive touch display and multi-language menu that is integrated into the unit.

And the cherry on top? The unit is attractively priced compared to conventional ATW heat pumps due to its compact design and easy indoor installation.

A market that’s heating up

Driven by growing concerns about climate change and technology advances, heat pumps are on the rise worldwide.

By using electricity to transfer heat rather than generate it, they are three to four times more efficient than traditional heating systems such as gas boilers or electric heaters. That’s good for the planet, as well as for household finances.

With governments across the globe offering subsides and rebates or implementing new, stricter energy regulations, more and more people are deciding that there’s no better time to make the switch than now.

Europe is the world’s top heat pump market. It was valued at nearly 15 billion euros in 2023 and was estimated to have a compound annual growth rate of 19.2% from 2024 to 2032, according to the research and consulting group Global Market Insights Inc.

But the rapid adoption of heat pump technology is by no meanslimited to Europe alone. Users in the United States and Canada are warming to heat pumps as well. China and Japan, also both have significant markets. Forecasters predict that worldwide, the heat pump market could reach 100 billion euros by the end of the decade. Midea’s award winning CirQHP Indoor Hybrid Heat Pump offers a compact and quieter solution for consumers looking to make the transition.
