Change starts at home – Berlin innovators discuss the future of building at IFA Next
Opening the Dream Stage on Sunday morning, the CEO of W-Lounge Mali Baum spoke to Michael Biel – State Secretary for the Senate Department for Economics, Energy, and Public Enterprises in Berlin – about how both offer support for start-ups, with a particular focus on talent, cooperation and diversity.
“Despite being half the population, only 1 in 5 startups is founded by women,” said Ms Biel, adding that one of the Senate’s initiatives is to add a €10,000 extra funding bonus for female founders.
Ms Baum then introduced a panel discussion entitled “The Way We Live, The Way We Work – Smart Cities and Sustainable Real Estate” hosted by Laurelie Martin, CEO of United Share.
Ahoy’s CEO Nikita Roshkow described a city as a “living organism – and collaboration is the secret sauce. Government, business, academia and residents can all work together to make a smart city work – but sometimes bringing all the players together is the problem.”
The blurring of boundaries between work and home opens up new challenges and opportunities for planning, building and renovating urban spaces, also requiring a blend between the physical and the digital space. Daniel Müller, Senior Business Architect CX Bosch Digital, affirmed, “At Bosch, in terms of our campus management, the office is a place for collaboration. But when the talent need to focus – leave them alone!”
Nils Wagner, CEO of REHAU New Ventures, took a personal approach. “As a family-owned business, it is natural for us to think longterm – literally thinking in terms of generations, so we can make decisions that will thrive further in the future” he said.
