Liebherr’s latest sustainability breakthroughs on display at IFA 2024
While IFA’s celebrates 100 years in 2024, Liebherr is turning 75, marking over seven decades of innovation. The brand will be highlighting its continuing push to minimise the environmental impact of its products, namely with the first freezer to fully incorporate BluRoX technology.
At this year’s IFA Kick-Off press event, the Head of Global Communication and Brand Management, Viola Linke, stressed the pioneering spirit of Liebherr across its more than seven decades in the premium refrigeration and freezing sector, as well as the crucial role of sustainability in its new product advances.
Ten years of research and development went into the brand’s ground-breaking BluRoX insulation technology, which has become an integral part of these efforts. BluRoX uses a vacuum stabilised with finely ground lava stone, a raw material known as perlite, instead of insulation foam.
Using BluRoX technology not only reduces waste due to the reusability of perlite, it also offers the highest level of energy efficiency. While the vacuum provides the best possible insulation, perlite presents very low conductivity. In addition, an appliance equipped with BluRoX provides some 25% more interior volume than those insulated with foam.
In its pursuit of circularity, Liebherr is continuing to develop and refine BluRoX. After presenting the patented technology in the door of the FNb 5056 upright freezer at last year’s IFA, the brand will be treating visitors at this year’s show to a new milestone: a prototype of the first freezer to fully incorporate BluRoX insulation, the FNXa 522i.
The FNXa 522i represents the brand’s determination to continue creating products with circular product design. In its development Liebherr is following the Cradle to Cradle (C2C) programme that stresses waste-free production and dismantling, and is currently on its way to achieving C2C certification for its fully BluRox-equipped product.
