All creators great and small gather for ShowStoppers at IFA 2024

The perennial event for media creators, start-ups, innovators and tech brands was as busy and buzzy as ever on Thursday evening.

As IFA’s South Entrance atrium was transformed into ShowStoppers, the hubbub of influencers and journalists meeting inventors and entrepreneurs was occasionally interrupted by an alarm sound emanating from a new robot lawn mower, a blast of music from a portable projector unit or the hum of a futuristic massage chair. From AI-integrated wearables and pool cleaning robots to smart binoculars and the claimed “world’s first” titanium electric toothbrush, the annual hands-on showcase offered a full spectrum of innovations and bright ideas.

Award-winning solar charging

Jackery has become a regular at IFA Berlin since its roots as a Silicon Valley startup in 2012, yet it continues to innovate with its range of portable solar power units – in fact, as IFA International was speaking to the Jackery team they were handed a Gadgety Award. They are going to need a bigger trophy cabinet. With its lithium iron phosphate battery tech the new LiFeP04 is an impressive all-round off-grid solar charging power station, and at the other end of the scale the tiny handheld Explorer 100 Plus makes solar power truly portable.

A futuristic solution for a globalised world

With a brand new product premiering at IFA – the world’s first multi-language X1 AI Interpreter Hub – Timekettle founder and CEO Leal Tian spoke passionately at ShowStoppers about the benefits of in-ear live translation, allowing for eye-contact and physical interaction impossible with traditional translation software. Signalling his love of science fiction by referencing the Babel fish from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” and “Star Trek”‘s Universal Translator as inspirations – even the company name is derived from Isaac Asimov’s influential 1955 sci-fi novel “The End Of Eternity” – the potential for Timekettle’s simultaneous multi-language in-ear translation is very real, as demonstrated at IFA 2024.

A keyboard worth its weight in design

Like the resurgence of vinyl records and 35mm cameras, in an environment dominated by touchscreens the desire for retro practical peripherals is growing. Epomaker represents a community of gamers, software engineers, hobbyists and product designers who came together to create a fast-growing range of colourful, customisable and cute keyboards, which provide that tactile feel and sound of the traditional keyboard in innovative and sustainable modern materials. Speaking to IFA International, Freya Tang said, “This is the first time we’ve been to IFA, and it’s an honour to be here for its 100th anniversary. We are releasing one or two new products every month. In China, there are many many gamers who pursue a better typing experience, and we have been able to innovate in the way we assemble the keyboards.”
