“We’re focused on showing off innovative tech that pushes the limits of what AI can do”
IFA International sat down with Hur Sung Wook, President of South Korea’s National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), to discuss the agency’s objectives here at IFA and get a preview of some of the cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) solutions on show at the NIPA Pavilion.
Can you start by introducing NIPA? What main areas does the agency focus on?
Our main role is to support innovation. We help information and communication technology (ICT) businesses grow, and provide the necessary legal and institutional support. Another big part of what we do is building international partnerships to help our companies succeed on a global scale.
What are the main objectives of NIPA and the Korean companies under its umbrella at IFA this year?
Our main goal is to build connections and help these companies expand internationally. By showcasing their AI solutions, we’re hoping to create new opportunities and foster impactful partnerships. Our plan is to help Korean companies stand out on the global AI panorama and we’re focused on showing off innovative tech that pushes the limits of what AI can do.
Can you highlight some of the innovations we can see at the NIPA Pavilion?
MoveAWheel’s EG-Way Solution has sensors that analyse sound waves bouncing off the road to classify different materials, and they’re much more accurate and cost-effective than cameras. ROOTONIX’s Monodue is an AI-based scalp diagnostic solution that gives users top-tier scalp analysis and personalised care recommendations. Mirroloid’s Smart Mirror is a beauty device that doesn’t just reflect, but showcases artistic expressions while using AI to deliver tailored beauty solutions. If visitors swing by the NIPA pavilion, they can check out the companies I just mentioned, along with some other really impressive ones.
4 out of the 15 companies selected for the pitch battle hosted by Factory Berlin are Korean: MoveAWheeL, GenGenAI, IDB, and PIA Space. It’s amazing to see their hard work, and I’m thrilled to join forces with them to prepare for the pitch battle.
