Significant moments from IFA’s first 100 years

IFA marks its centennial in 2024, one hundred years full of ground-breaking new products that have seen both the industry and the show evolve. As we look forward to another century of IFA, we continue our series of important moments in the show’s past.

2003 Major innovations this year were LCD, plasma and projection TV sets, camcorders and mp3 players, tiny hard drive jukeboxes, multimedia mobile phones, PDAs and smartphones, communication technology for vehicles, high-end audio and digital cameras.

2007 Mobility was cited as an example of the innovative strength of the industry in 2007: “Television, music enjoyment, Internet access, communication – everything is available on the move today,” read an IFA press release.

2010 Televisions brought the Internet into the living room. The E-House, a show home equipped with state-of-the-art home technology and networking, made its debut at IFA.

2014 The Startup Day@IFA, focusing on future industries such as connected home, wearables, health care and urban technologies, premiered this year.

2015 A new exhibition area, Fitness & Activity, was added for a growing variety of wearables and smart watches. The trend towards mobile music fuelled the launch of headphones and 3D printers attracted a lot of attention.
