Bosch embraces consumer needs to build better ovens
Launching a wide array of new products at IFA 2024, Bosch – part of BSH Home Appliances Group – has paid close attention to consumer needs in the development of its latest oven range
IFA International spoke to Andreas Diepold, Managing Director, Robert Bosch Hausgeräte GmbH, to find out more about the latest cooking appetites.
Bosch is presenting the Series 4, Series 6, and Series 8 ovens at IFA this year, which have innovations that emphasise healthier cooking options. What consumer trends and habits led to these features becoming a priority?
Healthy eating is a growing trend. It covers many areas such as personalised diets, food preparation, and sustainable living. At Bosch, we want to help consumers as best as we can. That is why the new Series 4 and Series 6 ovens are now equipped with the Air Fry heating mode and a steam function, making the healthier preparation of fried dishes very easy. It uses significantly less fat when frying, so it’s a healthier alternative to conventional cooking methods such as deep-frying. With the steam function, breads, roasts and other dishes turn out perfectly – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Our premium ovens in Series 8 are equipped with food recognition. Thanks to AI and an integrated camera, the oven recognises 80 different dishes and suggests the optimal cooking method. It not only selects the right program and temperature, but also automatically adjusts settings such as occasional steam bursts or grilling.
Can you explain the importance of energy efficiency on today’s market, and how Bosch ensures that these ovens maintain high performance while being efficient?
Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the energy class of their appliances. This is due to the fact that energy prices are rising. We are seeing a clear trend in the market for energy efficiency classes becoming more important. That’s why we have improved the entire range of energy efficiency classes for the Series 4 and Series 6. All ovens in these ranges now have an A+ energy efficiency rating.
How does Bosch differentiate between its Series 4, Series 6, and Series 8 ovens to cater to different segments of the market, and what customer feedback has influenced these differentiations?
We have different ranges to meet different consumer needs. Each range meets different requirements in terms of design and integration, ease of use, sustainability and healthy living, or ergonomics and enjoyment. At the same time, we want to make trends such as healthy eating accessible to everyone. Also, every appliance has a cleaning function to make this step as easy as possible for consumers.
How does Bosch see the future of kitchen technology evolving, and what role will AI play in future product development?
We were early to launch the first AI features such as PerfectBake. This year we are launching food recognition. We are constantly working on new technologies and innovations to improve the cooking experience and make our customers living more joyful and less complicated.
IFA: A unique international opportunity
When asked about the importance of IFA, Mr Diepold’s response was categorical: “IFA has always been an important place to meet our retailers and press contacts and show them the latest products.” He added that he enjoyed these face-to-face meetings, “not only with our partners but also with consumers”. The real advantage of the show, according to the Managing Director, is that IFA provides the opportunity to present new products to a “wide and interested audience in a short space of time.”
